Jon Anderson–Senior Structural Detailer/Technician

Team Member Spotlight: Jon Anderson

Meet MP2’s Detail Man, Jon Anderson

“The Cadillac of all the drawings I’ve seen,” is how one client recently described MP-Squared’s structural drawings. Jon Anderson is one of the team members who helped establish our reputation for delivering such comprehensive and accurate drawings.

As Senior Structural Detailer/Technician at MP-Squared (MP2), Jon performs the duties of what’s traditionally called a “draftsman.” Using AutoCAD and primarily Revit, he sets up structural drawings and details for projects and develops steel parts drawings.

Prior to joining MP2 in 2012, Jon spent 20 years working for two big players in the pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) market. This experience has served him well, as a large percentage of his projects at MP2 are PEMB retrofits.

Let’s learn some more details about Jon.

What stands out about your experience at MP2?

Joining MP2 has been the best move of my career. Working here has expanded my knowledge of the building construction world, allowing me to work with new materials such as structural steel and concrete foundations.

The people at MP2 are great to work with, and the atmosphere is easy-going and family-oriented. It makes meeting the challenging job requirements and maintaining schedules easier and more enjoyable.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up in Warren, Minnesota, where my first job was as a farmhand, driving grain trucks and doing fieldwork. High school drafting classes sparked my interest in the building construction industry.

While completing my Architectural Drafting & Estimating Technology degree at 20 years old, I was recruited by VP Buildings in Evansville, Wisconsin, and I’ve lived here ever since.

But I still bleed purple for the Minnesota Vikings!

My wife, Patti, and I have been married 35 years, and we have two adult children, two grandchildren and three dogs. We’re “patiently” waiting for more grandchildren.

Fun fact—I’m a bit of a Halloween freak. I really get into decorating with Halloween props I’ve made and entertaining the neighborhood kids and grandkids. Every year, I dress up as the Grim Reaper and hide in a full-size coffin I built, ready to jump out and scare trick-or-treaters.

To atone for the Vikings thing, tell us what you like about Wisconsin.

Two of my favorite places are the Capitol Square in Madison and the Northwoods.

We love spending time at our cabin near Hayward, where I enjoy all the outdoor activities I can manage—hunting, fishing, ice fishing, hiking and snowshoeing, to name a few.

In addition to the Vikings, I like watching Wisconsin Badgers sports.

Best place for cheese curds (squeaky or fried)?

Any backroad cheese factory (squeaky!!!)

Old Fashioned or beer?

Either…but I’m more of a whisky/bourbon guy.

Thanks, Jon!
