Structural Design: Foundry on 3rd Luxury Apartments

Foundry on 3rd demonstrates the range of large- to small-scale structures MP-Squared designs with equal precision. From the main five-story, mixed-use luxury apartment building with skywalk to the small-scale shade canopy in the courtyard, every piece of the project was designed with efficiency and attention to detail.

This U-shaped urban structure in downtown Wausau consists of four stories of wood framing above a second-floor precast podium slab. Non-combustible framing is utilized between the first- and second-floor podium slabs, with a full level of underground parking below. The at-grade outdoor courtyard is also on top of the first-floor podium slab and features the structural steel shade canopy over the grilling station.

Notably, the project includes a structural steel skywalk that provides tenants with access to additional parking across the street in an existing parking garage. The skywalk construction consists of a steel Pratt-style truss with large cantilever ends and steel moment frames, all supported by concrete piers.
