The Hyattsville Middle School is a 164,000-sf., multi-story building designed to support a comprehensive academic, administrative and extracurricular program, while promoting efficient circulation and a safe, welcoming learning environment.
The ground floor functions as the primary public and shared-use level, housing administrative offices, a centrally located media center, dining and commons spaces, a gymnasium, performance and arts areas and supporting building services. Upper floors are dedicated to academic instruction and include classrooms, science labs and flexible learning spaces designed to support evolving educational needs.
Structurally, the building utilizes a predominantly steel-framed system with composite floor construction, providing durability, flexibility and efficient spans. PEMB systems were incorporated for the gymnasium and music spaces to achieve large, column-free interiors. This structural solution supports the architectural vision, while delivering a practical, efficient and adaptable facility for students and staff.
