Newcomer Supply’s new headquarters is a hybrid between a conventional two-story, steel office building and a pre-engineered metal building warehouse.
MP-Squared (MP2) provided full design for the office building and foundation design for the pre-engineered portion.
The structural floor system of the office building consists of concrete filled metal deck supported by steel joists, girders and columns. The roof system is metal deck also supported by steel joists, girders and columns.
Additional structural elements for this project include a rooftop mechanical access room (doghouse), an equipment mezzanine, within the warehouse, and a loading dock, outside the warehouse.
One of the primary design challenges was engineering two distinct structural systems to allow for independent movement, while maintaining the visual continuity of a single, integrated architectural form.
Another challenge involved detailing and supporting the brick veneer above large expanses of curtain wall glazing, which required careful coordination of structural supports and load transfer mechanisms.
