Go big or go home!

As the structural steel engineer for the Process Building at Greenstone Gold Mine, MP-Squared (MP2) played a key role in bringing one of Canada’s largest gold mining operations to life. Hailed as an incredible success by Equinox Gold, this project highlights MP2’s ability to tackle big, complex projects with confidence and precision.

This project consisted of designing more than 925 tons of steel and required extensive coordination between suppliers and fabricators to ensure compatibility with multiple material handling systems. Adding to the complexity was the need for a 40-ton crane mounted nearly 100 feet above the finished operating floor.

MP2 conducted a series of analyses to determine the necessary lateral framing system to accommodate environmental and crane forces while minimizing movement. Given the height, movement tolerances and need for an open process space, we ultimately determined a fixed-base, moment-frame solution was the most suitable option.
