The Bank of Deerfield has been a pillar of the community since 1887. When management decided to expand the bank’s footprint and replace its existing 44-year-old banking center downtown, MP-Squared (MP2) provided structural design services for the new three-story building.
Primary framing on the new banking center is structural steel and open web steel joists, with steel moment frames and CMU shear walls providing lateral load resistance. Roof framing consists of wood trusses bearing on structural steel and CMU walls. The facility includes a new drive-through ATM and an abundance of large windows on all three levels for natural light.
The Prairie style and midcentury modern aesthetics, which provide warmth and functionality, caused some unusual structural challenges. Open stairwells and the three-story glass entrances called for unique connection geometry and framing design. A rated bank vault and large spans added to the structural steel complexity.
